Stepping into the Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong for our mother-daughter shopping getaway, I knew immediately we were going to enjoy this stay. From the playful welcome drinks at the friendly 9th-floor check-in to the Instagram-worthy spaces throughout, this is not your typical Bangkok hotel.

We chose the Moxy for its prime location, ideal for our shopping weekend. What we didn’t expect was to be greeted with cocktails and an invitation to play pool at check-in. This set the tone for our entire stay at Thailand’s first Moxy hotel, where the reception desk doubles as a bar and the lobby feels more like a fun social club than a hotel.
Finding Our Feet in Bangkok’s Retail Hub
The Moxy’s location proved perfect for our shopping-focused stay. Connected directly to CentralWorld and Platinum Fashion mall via covered skywalks, we could explore Bangkok’s retail heart without braving the heat or sudden downpours.
The hotel sits strategically between Siam and Pratunam, with multiple transport options: Chit Lom BTS station is a covered 600-metre walk making it easy to access the fabulous skytrain network, while Pratunam Pier offers exciting canal boat rides to the Old Town.

When evening arrived, we found ourselves perfectly positioned between the sophisticated bars of Chit Lom and the energy of Siam – though most nights, we ended up at the hotel’s rooftop bar, watching the sunset illuminate the city in gold.
A Design That Tells Stories
The design team has created something special here, weaving the spirit of the old Scala Cinema throughout the space. Neon lights spill across the lobby and into the bar area, creating a retro theatre ambiance that feels both nostalgic and contemporary.

Thai mythology appears in modern murals throughout the space, while clever theatrical touches catch the eye at every turn. The practical layout centres everything from check-in to dining on the social 9th floor, creating a natural flow that encourages you to linger and explore.

The Rooms
Our 18-square-metre Queen Room (one of 303 in the hotel) made the most of its compact space. From our perch on the 23rd floor, floor-to-ceiling windows framed an impressive urban view, with Baiyoke Tower II and golden temple domes punctuating Bangkok’s skyline.

The room’s thoughtful design focused on practicality: an open hanging rail with plenty of hooks for shopping bags, USB ports everywhere you might need them, and a comfortable bed with high-quality linens that proved perfect after long days of exploring.
The mini-fridge was tiny but functional, and though we initially wondered about the doorless shower, the bathroom’s clever layout kept water contained.

The industrial-chic bathroom deserves special mention, with its black vanity, perfect lighting (my daughter’s impromptu selfie studio), and vintage-style floor tiles. Nice touches included Moxy-branded pink flip-flops and a powerful rainfall shower.

For those traveling with friends or family, the twin rooms offer a bit more space at 20 square metres. There are also loft-style and corner rooms (36 square metres) if you prefer more generous proportions, but honestly, our Queen Room proved perfect for our mother-daughter trip.
It helped that the public spaces were so inviting – we found ourselves using the lobby’s cozy corners as an extension of our room, perfect for planning the next day’s adventures over coffee.
Finding Your Way
First-time visitors should know that the hotel entrance is through The Market Mall – a setup that initially seems odd but quickly proves convenient. Three separate elevator systems connect different parts of the complex: one from the ground floor to reception, another for guest rooms, and a third providing direct access to the shopping walkways.

Getting around Bangkok from here is straightforward. The skywalk system connects you directly to the major shopping centres, while the Chit Lom BTS station offers quick access to the rest of the city. A favourite way of exploring are the Saen Saep canal boats at nearby Pratunam Pier – a fast, fun way to reach the Old Town while avoiding Bangkok’s notorious traffic.
The Social Aspect of Staying Here
The Moxy’s 9th floor manages to be both a practical hub and social space.

During our stay, we saw it transform from a quiet morning coffee spot to an evening entertainment zone, with guests gathering around the free-to-use pool table, air hockey, and board games.

The outdoor terrace particularly impressed us with its dual personality: a casual bean bag area perfect for sundowners, and a more formal dining space with skyscraper views.
For those mixing business with pleasure, there’s a well-equipped workspace with iMacs, though we only used it to research shopping destinations!
Dining and Drinks
The Moxy’s breakfast buffet set a high standard each morning. As a coffee snob, I was pleasantly surprised by their brew, and the spread covered all bases – from perfectly cooked eggs to dim sum, congee, and an impressive donut selection that was hard to resist.

Dinner on the outdoor terrace proved to be a highlight. We sampled our way through the sharing plates menu (don’t miss the cheesy chubby – it’s a pulled pork tortilla wrap that’s delicious despite it’s odd name!) while watching the city lights come alive.

The cocktail list deserves special mention for its creative use of local ingredients. Those with a sweet tooth will love the Naughty Candy which features butterfly pea juice and pandan cavier.
There’s a 24-hour Grab + Go café which could have come in handy for late-night cravings, but we ate far too much at dinner to need it!
Beyond the hotel’s Thai-Western fusion menu and themed nights (we checked out on Taco Tuesday sadly, as it looked awesome), the surrounding streets offers plenty of options. Our top tip: look out for the carts that appear around 6 pm right outside the hotel.
The Bottom Line
After a few nights, it’s easy to see why the Moxy works so well. While it’s not the most luxurious hotel in Bangkok, it delivers where it matters: great location, genuine personality, and smart design that makes the most of every space.

The young, multilingual staff add to the energy, and the facilities cover all bases – from the well-equipped gym (which I’ll admit I only admired from a distance this trip) to the delicous food served with a view.
The Moxy is perfect for:
- Shopping trips (the location really is unbeatable)
- Social travellers who enjoy hotel life
- Anyone who values practicality over traditional luxury
